MARAPONG — Lephalale Station Commander Colonel Daniel Ramakgoakgoa as well as officials from Social Crime Prevention, FSC, Crime Prevention, Victim Empowerment and the Department of Health and Social Development visited Phegelelo and Tielelo Secondary Schools in Marapong last week and Hoërskool Ellisras and Mabelane Seleka Technical School on Tuesday 22 January. The reason of the visit was to create crime awareness amongst the youth.
Learners were told to stay away from adult activities and to be aware of statutory rape.
Colonel Ramakgoakgoa further advised the learners to refrain from bullying as it is against the law.
“If police are alerted about bullying at schools, they can attend to it and arrest those who are responsible.
“As learners you need to always adhere to school rules and respect the law.
“You can’t be a student and also be drinking alcohol, roaming the streets late at night or taking part in gambling,” Colonel Ramakgoakgoa said.
The various career options in the SAPS were also addressed.
The awareness campaign also encouraged learners to report any form of sexual abuse they see, irrespective of how respected and powerful the abuser is in the community.
