LEPHALALE — A Senior Vehicle Examiner at the Palala Private Vehicle Testing Station on the R33 near Lephalale, Thapelo Medupie (35) was arrested for fraud on Thursday 17 January.
The arrest was made due to good cooperation by the Anti-Fraud Unit, Corruption Unit, National Department of Transport – Vehicle and Driver’s License Compliance Unit and the SAPS Limpopo Provincial Task Team.
The Palala Vehicle Testing Station is a Grade A Testing Station (roadworthy centre).
The arrest of Medupie followed after the task team investigated a roadworthy certificate issued to a bus.
The bus was in a Gauteng Municipal Pound when the roadworthy certificate was issued by Medupie. The bus was tested by the pounding authority and found to be not roadworthy.
Medupie was also acting as Management Representative of Palala Private Vehicle Testing Station.
The driver of the bus tried to get out of the pound and the Traffic Chief reported the incident to National Authorities.
On Thursday 17 January during the arrest, more than 800 files, roadworthy applications, a cell phone and a computer was confiscated.
Medupie appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court and was granted bail.
