SHONGOANE — A video has surfaced on Facebook showing a white BMW Z4 spinning in the middle of Village Street in Shongoane 1 before it crashes.
A lady is heard screaming in joy while watching just before the car collides with a stationed truck and later plunges into a fence as the driver moves metres from the truck, damaging the fence.
In the background there is additional and not clearly audible noise from onlookers that is followed by: “… ahh … he has hit the car against something!”
Someone from the yard is seen charging towards the car at that stage, dust filling the scene as the driver speeds off.
The video was reportedly shot in Shongoane 1 on a sandy road near a school over the weekend.
The same car was involved in a fatal accident on 3 March 2017 at Relebogile Street near Marapong Housing in the early hours of Saturday where one person died and the driver sustained injuries.
A culpable homicide case was opened at that time at Lephalale SAPS and the car was reportedly removed from the road due to its roadworthiness.
Mogol Post tried unsuccessfully to trace information regarding developments in the culpable homicide case against the owner of the car.
Car spinning is done on many occasions locally and in the rest of the country at large, with some referring to it as an informal sport that usually sees the usage of old BMW E30 325iS models, known as Gusheshe.
Lephalale local Police say in situations like this, the owner of the damaged property can open a case of malicious damage to their property and there can also be a fine based on the damage incurred.
In addition, a case of reckless and negligent driving can be opened against the driver.
