LEPHALALE — The 63-year-old Simon Madihlaba, a Supervisor at Kaefer, and his 50-year-old wife, Catherine, were the targets of burglars at their contractor house in George Avgos Street in Lephalale in the early morning hours of Friday 30 August. It was not their first incident this year, but this time he was stabbed with a knife.
The first burglary was in July this year. His laptop and clothing were stolen. On Friday, the suspects took his TV.
Mogol Post visited Simon in Ellisras District Hospital on Monday 2 September. He was still recovering from the trauma, and his wounds had to be treated. Catherine was suffering from shock.
“I woke up at about 01:30 on Friday morning and heard something in the dining room. I went to look and saw the TV was gone. Suddenly two men appeared from nowhere and started stabbing me with a knife,” Simon explained.
He said he wanted to fight back but was too weak due to blood loss. At that stage, Catherine managed to press the panic button, the alarm went off, and the suspects fled.
Monster Security guards reacted quickly, and at the time they arrived on the scene, Simon was bleeding heavily.
According to Simon, he waited more than an hour and a half for the ambulance to arrive. He then decided he should get to a hospital on his own because he struggled to breathe. The security guards took him to Ellisras District Hospital, where he was admitted.
According to Simon, the suspects probably assumed there was no one at home because it was a long weekend for Medupi Project employees. He was at home because his employer, Kaefer, asked him to work extra shifts on Friday, Saturday and Monday.
Hanlie Muller, Admin Manager at Kaefer, said to Mogol Post they are going to relocate the staff who live in George Avgos Street as there are too many incidents lately.
A case of house robbery was opened at Lephalale SAPS.
