MARAPONG — A white VW Polo with registration number DJL 227 L was stolen out of a yard in Marapong x4 during the early morning hours of Saturday 22 October by a suspect who was previously arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
WO Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Police spokesperson says according to the complainant, he was awakened around 00:00 by the sound of an idling car engine. Soon after that he heard a “bang” at the gate. When looking through the window, he saw his car going through the gate driven by an unknown person.
WO Mokoena says the complainant saw that his bathroom window was open and his cell phone, wallet, ID book and car keys were gone.
The complainant ran after his car. The suspect probably lost control over the car after he tried to avoid a head-on collision with another car and the car collided with an electricity pole.
WO Mokoena, who was on the scene, says the suspect was unconscious, trapped in the car and seriously injured.
The police were called out and after further investigations they realised that the suspect was involved in another recent incident where he threw a firearm into the Tambotie River. (The Limpopo SAPS Search and Rescue Unit recovered a stolen firearm from the Tambotie River in Lephalale on Wednesday 14 September).
The 18 year old suspect was arrested and transported to Ellisras District Hospital where he is being kept under police guard.
