TOM BURKE — The police in Tom Burke arrested two men on Saturday 17 November shortly after they committed a house robbery.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale SAPS spokesperson, it is alleged that Cathrine Vhawonza (the victim) was sleeping in her room on Saturday when she was awoken by two men at around 03:00. They pointed at her with a firearm and robbed her of R6 000 as well as an undisclosed amount of coins and three cell phones.
Later on Saturday, while the police were busy with investigations, Alfred Monyai (28) and Solomon Mokoma (18) from Blood River in Seanego outside Polokwane were arrested along the R572 while on their way to Lephalale.
They were found in possession of a large amount of money which they allegedly said they earned from selling dagga. However, while the police were still busy on the scene, one of the suspects told the police that they obtained the money from a house robbery at Swartwater Coffee Shop in the Tom Burke policing area earlier during the day.
They also took the police to a place where a firearm with ammunition, cigarettes, three cell phones and an undisclosed amount of silver coins were hidden in a hole in the bushes.
Monyai and Mokoma were charged with house robbery and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to WO Mokoena the firearm was traced and it was found that it was stolen from Constable Mokale from Blood River.
They appeared in the Phalala Magistrate’s Court on Monday 19 November and the case was postponed to 26 November for a formal bail application. According to WO Mokoena, they also have to appear in Seanego for stealing the firearm from a police officer.
