Three taxi drivers in court — murder and attempted murder

MARAPONG — Three taxi drivers, Kwena Modime (40), Poppie Lebelo (35) and Solomon Rakgotho (28), appeared in Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 19 November on charges of murder and attempted murder. They were granted bail of R3 000 each and the case was postponed to 21 January 2020.

According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, it is alleged that the suspects took Ernest Kwena Baifala to the Marapong taxi rank and they asked him where Kwena Baloyi was. He said that he didn’t know, and they started to assault him with a spade and sticks.

The suspects forcefully took him and Kleinboy Masenya to the Spar complex and threatened to pour diesel over them. They were severely beaten up, and Masenya died on the scene.

Police arrived on the scene and assisted Baifala.

Police request that no one should take the law into their own hands.
