LEPHALALE — Members of the Lephalale Top Runners Athletics Club were amongst the 19 103 runners who took part in this year’s Comrades Marathon from Durban to Pietermaritzburg on Sunday 9 June.
Congratulations to Lerato Mogale who finished the race in 11:38, Marcia Magagula (11:10), Mzikayifani Guma (10:15), Ernest Morolong (09:59) and Molatudi Mabote (09:20).
These local runners represented Lephalale Top Runners well.
2019 marked 94th Comrades Marathon with the theme “SIZOQOBA – Together we Triumph” which speaks to the spirit of the race. The race has grown to become the oldest largest as well as the most famous and popular ultramarathon in the world.
Runners have committed themselves to the challenge of epic proportions, deliberately conceived of the exceptionally daunting test of endurance over an extreme distance of 87 km and punishing undulations which compromise of 54 km uphill running and a total climb of 1 800 m of five torturous hills.
It is a race like no other which demand extraordinary levels of courage, commitment, fitness, endurance and strength to conquer, but it is also a journey that no one makes alone. African proverb “If you want to go fast, go alone if you want to go far go together”.
