LEPHALALE — Two people were badly injured in a car accident on Nelson Mandela Avenue on Sunday morning 26 May around 01:30. The incident occurred at the traffic lights near Silver Charm complex.
According to information, the driver of a white hatchback Mercedes-Benz collided with the driver of a maroon Volkswagen TSI. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was allegedly driving at a high speed from Lephalale town to direction Onverwacht, and the driver of the Volkswagen was, according to eye witnesses, driving without lights, and he wasn’t sober.
The driver of the Merc sustained fractures, and two passengers were slightly injured. The driver of the Volkswagen fractured his knee cap and dislocated other joints. They were transported to Ellisras District Hospital by Honnetsweng EMS.
In another incident on Sunday around 02:00 the driver of a Toyota Corolla was seriously injured on the R510 (Marken Road) about 20 km from Shongoane. According to Police, the man allegedly lost control over the vehicle and it overturned.
The Fire Brigade and ambulance service team were at the scene to assist, and he was declared dead. A case of culpable homicide was opened at Villa Nora Police.
On the Lephalale CPF Facebook page the CPF said they have at a number of times publicly advised motorists – both drivers and passengers – not to use alcohol in public and not to drink and drive or be a passenger in a vehicle where the driver is intoxicated.
