Callies FC crowned as winners

LEPHALALE — Callies Football Club (FC) from Ga-Seleka were crowned the reigning champions out of 32 soccer teams around Lephalale who took part in the fourth edition of the Lephalale Local Municipality Captain Thulare Mayoral charity tournament.
Speaking at the launch of the tournament in December, Cllr Jack Maeko, Lephalale Mayor, named the tournament “the Nelson Mandela Charity Soccer tournament” in memory of the late Nelson Mandela who passed on in the month of December. He also said that the games are about rural sports development and an opportunity for the youth to showcase their talents. “It is also a good, healthy way to get people off the streets and to unite the people of Lephalale” Maeko said. “I urge the community to have responsible fun and not engage in unnecessary fights. If a team loses they need to accept that they have lost and know that they can always participate again next year” he added.
Numerous spectators came to watch and cheer for their favourite teams; some of who played till midnight. Callies FC from Ga-Seleka were crowned the winners and walked away with total prize money of R50 000. Runner-ups were Peace Brothers from Ga-Mocheko (prize of R30 000), third place was Egypt of Mokuruanyane (R20 000) and in fourth place was Might Acess from Lerupurupung winning R15 000.
