Excellence in Martial Arts

LEPHALALE — Some Martial Arts students and members of Pro Perfection Self-defence consultants and Mogol Mix-Martial Arts Academy, participated in the NMA-ISKA (National Martial Arts – International Sports Karate Association) SWD Classic in George on 10 and 11 March and did extremely well.
It was their first Karate and Kickboxing tournament. SWD Classic is a full MASA and SASCOC sanctioned event and one of the qualifying tournaments for students to attend Destiny in October 2017 which is the National SA’s. NMA/ISKA is the only recognized organization in South Africa that may award colours for Sport Martial Arts divisions, Sport Grappling and Sport NMA divisions.

Team members and their achievements:
Front: Sensei Thys Smith – referee and chief instructor for the day (front) and f.l.t.r: Johanku Meyer (men’s-beginners 70 – 75 kg). He obtained a first place (gold) in traditional Kumite and Continuous Fighting, a third place (bronze) goes to Juliana Meyer (white to green belt women over 70 kg)in Point Fighting, Bernard Elmes (men’s beginners 65 – 70 kg) obtained a third semi-contract by receiving a third place in Traditional Kumite and Point Fighting, Sensei Jannie van der Walt (men’s black belt opens) obtained a second place (silver) in Continuous Fighting and Point Fighting, Shanya Ashley Botha (white to green belt women over 70 kg) obtained a first place (gold) in traditional Kumite and Kata as well as a first in traditional Kumite and Continuous Fighting and a second place (silver) in traditional Kata and Point Fighting, Brenda Brand (white to green belt – women over 70 kg) obtained a second place (silver) in Traditional Kumite and a third place (bronze) in Continuous Fighting and Frikkie Brand ( white to green belt, boys 14-17 years) obtained a first place (gold) in traditional Kumite and Continuous Fighting and a third place (bronze) in Traditional Kata and Points.
