Marathon of note!

LEPHALALE — For the third consecutive year, Lephalale Mall, in association with the Mogol Marathon Club and Exxaro as main sponsor, successfully hosted the Exxaro Mogol Marathon on Saturday, 13 August.
Distances included 42 km, 21 km, 10 km and a 5 km fun run with a total of 480 athletes participating over the various distances.
The organisers of the marathon say they were honoured with the presence of Ludwick Mamabolo, the winner of Comrades 2012 and runner-up this year in the second place as well as Shadrack Hoff, a top track athlete over 5 000 and 10 000 meter distances. He also made his transition into marathons in 2000 participating in the 10 km and 42 km distances respectively.
The results over the various distances were:
10 km – Open Female: 1st Hildegard Snyman, 2nd Lizette van Rooyen, 3rd Sanette van Tonder.
10 km – Open Male: 1st Petrus Mogolana, 2nd Samuel Manamela and 3rd Collen Mmola.
21 km – Open Female: 1st Nandi Dywili, 2nd Catherine Malungane and 3rd Joyce Netshifhefhe.
21 km – Open Male: 1st Thlou Peu, 2nd Edwin Khonkhobe and 3rd Phuti Mohale.
42 km – Open Female: 1st Puleng Motitsoe, 2nd Tshifhiwa Malobola and 3rd Gladys Lukhwareni.
42 km – Open Male: 1st Lucas Raseruthe, 2nd Lutendo Mapoto and 3rd Charles Soza.
Numerous local businesses manned the eight water points along the route and had fun competing for the water point floating trophy, which JD Towing won.
Road running clubs represented to name but a few, Nedbank Elite, Melkbosstrand, Magnolia, Secunda, Cool Running, Pietersburg Road runners, Phalaborwa, Ngodwane.
The organising committee thanks the volunteers, assistants, marshals, officials and sponsors; not forgetting every single athlete on the route. They look forward to hosting the Exxaro Marathon again next year.
