Waterberg MTB Shines

VAALWATER — The final round of the 2017 SA National MTB Cup Series XCO (UCI Cat 1 and Junior World Series), as well as the South African XCO Championships took place at Mankele MTB Park on Saturday 15 July.
Cross-Country XCO consists of a lap racing around a short circuit. It’s the only discipline which is in the Olympic and high mountain bike skills are required.
Saturday saw a few Limpopo riders taking part in the very challenging 2017 National XCO Championships at Mankele in Nelspruit. Among them were riders from Waterberg MTB Club, Vaalwater. Alan van Coller had a great ride and finished first in the Masters category. Young Lilian Baber finished the season off strongly, winning three of the series events and taking the Championship win on the day. Both Alan and Lilian received the winner’s shirt and start next year’s season in their SA colours. Emma van Coller came in a close second in the Youth Girls category. Joshua Baber claimed fourth place and Livingston Banda rode into 13th in the Sub-Junior Boys category, with Benjamin Baber finishing 16th overall in the Youth Men category out of a field of 49 riders.
The next race will be the Tour de Nyl at Bela-Bela (Warmbad) on 12 August, the Tour de Lake at Stanford Lake College on 2 September, the final race Tour de Lip on 16 September, hosted by High School Louis Trichardt.
The Waterberg MTB Club will be well represented at these events with riders from Lephalale, Modimolle and Vaalwater.
