A legend dies

LEPHALALE — Adelino Pontes, commonly known as Shorty, was born on 13 August 1936 on the island of Madeira. He immigrated to South Africa in 1960.
He came to the Bushveld in the earlier 1980’s. He co-owned Elma Cafe, Kosland and Impala Cafe. He later proceeded to build the first Supermarket in Onverwacht, Marula Supermarket, and he also built the Bosveld Sentra Building. It was however his dream to be on the farm with his animals.
He purchased the farm Vogelstruisfontein where he farmed with cattle and game. It was truly a labour of love, therefore he was devastated when three of his Rhinos were poached a few years ago. He also survived a farm attack some years ago and recently completed building the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Rupert Street, Onverwacht.
Shorty had the ability to make an impact on the lives of many people.
On 5 September 2017 he passed away in the Little Company of Mary Hospital in Pretoria. He was 81 years old.
He leaves his current wife Julie Matinho and three children, JP, Assis and Nelio behind.
The funeral is to be held on Saturday 16 September from 10:00 at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Rupert Street.
(Shorty played a major role in many people’s lives in Lephalale and his death left a major gap in the community. Rest in peace Shorty – Ed)
