Bopanang – taking hands

LEPHALALE — The women from the Bopanang Bangalong group are working on improving their skills and to protect the environment.

They have started a basic recycling collection point to ensure the right thing is done in their area and according to them, they will soon begin to use more recyclables in their projects. At this stage they are using pieces of materials to craft Sri Lankan embroidery. They are also making bags and are busy working on cushions that they plan to sell.

The artist, Thabo Sibeko of Earthlife Africa, Johannesburg, recently visited them to speak to the group about their fight against environmental injustice and his experience in turning rubbish into art.
