LEPHALALE — Lephalale Police are investigating a case of bare copper cable theft. According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, the suspects allegedly wore work suits and stole the copper cable at the fence of an Exxaro substation.
WO Mokoena said according to security officers who were on the scene, they were perusing the suspects from 06:30 on Tuesday 26 March but they only manage to arrest one suspect. According to WO Mokoena, one of the security officers was stabbed in his neck with a knife by the suspect during the arrest.
According to information the suspect worked for a contractor company at the mine who also works with copper cables.
The estimated value of the copper cable is R100 000.
