DEFF refused railyard authorization

Feedback on the Transnet Lephalale Railway Yard Expansion Project at Steenbokpan was given at the Lephalale Development Forum meeting on Thursday 12 March.

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the Railyard Expansion Project is completed, but the Department of Environmental Affairs, Fisheries and Forestry’s (DEFF) refused to grant authorization.

The reason why the project is halted is due to the project running across a nature reserve and a signed consent letter from the landowner is outstanding. Since the appeal period lapses on Friday 27 March, Transnet must submit the outstanding letter of consent from the landowner on or before 27 March 2020.
