Ellisras Martial Arts Champs

 

LEPHALALE — Members from Ellisras Mixed Martial Arts Academy have recently been selected as team members of the Limpopo NMA/ISKA-SASMA Sport Martial Arts team. They have participated in the NMA-ISKA (National Martial Arts-International Sports Karate Association) Destiny 12 which took place in Coetzenburg Sports Centre, Stellenbosch.
“Destiny” is the annual NMA/ISKA National championships. It is attended by teams from all over South Africa and Namibia with an average attendance of about
1 100 competitors and several thousands of spectators over two days of competition.
The competition is open to juniors and seniors of all ages and belt groups.
“Destiny” is one of the qualifying tournaments to enable martial arts to take part in the ISKA World championships in 2018 in Florida, Orlando, USA.
For most of the students it was their first Destiny and Ellisras Martial Arts performed extremely well. They delivered quite a few SA Champions and some of the students have been selected to attend the ISKA World championships in 2018 in Florida, Orlando, USA in either the Development, President or Protea Team.
Sensei Thys Smith, Sensei Jannie van der Walt, Senpai Hanlie van Zyl en Senpai Miekie van der Walt are included in the Protea Team.

Back FLTR: Hanlie van Zyl: Veteran’s Women – Brown to Black Belt. 3 third places; Sensei Thys Smith: Veteran’s Men Black Belt, one second place in Traditional Kumite; Sensei Jannie van der Walt: Seniors Self-defence Open, first place, (SA Champion); Frikkie Brand (Boys 16-17 years Intermediated): first place in Continuous Fighting (SA Champion), second place for Traditional Kumite and Full Contact, third place in Traditional Karate Kata and fourth place in Points Fighting; Brenda Brand: Senior Women (Intermediated), second place in Traditional Kata and front: Miekie van der Walt: Senior Women Brown to Black Belt, first place in Traditional Kumite (SA Champion), third place in Continuous Fighting; Megan Prinsloo: Senior Women (Intermediated), two first places in Continuous Fighting and Traditional Kumite (SA Champion), one second place in Points Fighting and one fourth place in Traditional Kata; Dian Besseling, (Boys 14-15 years Intermediated): first place in Creative Breaking (SA Champion), second place in Traditional Karate Kata, third place in Traditional Kumite and Full Contact, 15th Points & Continues Fighting, Juliana Meyer: Senior Women (Intermediated), second place in Traditional Kumite and fourth place in Traditional Kata; Johan Pretorius (Boys 14-15 years Intermediated): first place in Traditional Kumite and Full Contact ( SA Champion), third place in Traditional Karate Kata, fourth place in Continuous Fighting and sixth place in Points Fighting
