LEPHALALE — Lephalale SAPS are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a 33-year-old man was allegedly hit and killed by a car on the R33 in the early morning hours of Friday 29 March.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, the driver of the car that killed the man called the police to report the incident.
He said in his statement that he was driving on the R33 when he saw an object laying in the middle of the road and he was already too close to it to react. He tried to avoid the collision but still drove over the object.
He stopped the car to investigate and was shocked to see that it was the body of a man.
After investigating the scene, it was clear that the man was knocked down by another car in a hit and run accident earlier and then this driver drove over him.
The family of the deceased were called. The police accompanied them to the mortuary where they had to identify his body and they confirmed that it was the body of the 33-year-old Neo Lazarus Matlolela from a village near Steenbokpan.
The investigation continues.
