LEPHALALE — A security guard was killed at the Mogol Club in the early morning hours of Tuesday 14 May.
According to Police, a witness, Lefa Lavious Baloyi, alleged that he and his colleague, Gladwill Mabuza, reported for duty at Mogol Club after which they continued with their usual responsibilities such as patrolling the yard and guarding the property. Baloyi said he was surprised by an unknown man approaching him around 01:30, he pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to be quiet. Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena, Lephalale Cluster spokesperson, said two more suspects made their appearance and they took him to the toilet. They bound his hands and feet with his shoelaces and electric cables, they used his belt to close his mouth preventing him from shouting for help. The suspects then took Baloyi’s wallet containing R170 as well as his driver’s license and bank card with a positive balance of R1 000. They left him in the toilet and disappeared.
WO Mokoena said Baloyi managed to loosen himself and ran to the main road where he was assisted by security members who called their control room, and the police were summoned to the scene. Baloyi then returned to the work place with the police where they discovered that his colleague, 27-year-old Gladwill Mabuza, was strangled to death with his dog’s leash. His hands and legs were still tied. His cell phone and security radio were taken by the suspects.
Police and all key role players attended the scene and suspects were identified and followed.
Later on Tuesday three suspects were arrested in connection with the murder and robbery and found in possession of a firearm, liquor and a security uniform.
One suspect was arrested at Gilead Village and two suspects were arrested in Ramokgopha Village.
The investigation continues.
