LEPHALALE — Lephalale SAPS carried out Operation Basadi on Monday 31 August. The team was divided into two groups – the first group was assigned for a roadblock on OR Thambo Road and the second group was tasked to operate in Mahlakung informal settlement in Onverwacht.
The focus of the operation was on any illegal activities around the town, to apprehend illegal immigrants, to identify illegal liquor outlets and to detect dangerous weapons.
Deployment was as follows:
Nine SAPS VISPOL members with three vehicles, 17 SANDF members with four vehicles, four local traffic officers with four vehicles and nine provincial traffic officers with four vehicles.
Successes include the arrest of six people for violating the Road Traffic Act (RTA), the arrest of 18 illegal immigrants and one person for aiding and abetting.
Actions executed include one roadblock and eight stop and search actions where 65 vehicles and 206 people were searched.
