LEPHALALE / VILLA NORA — Lephalale SAPS Cluster, together with the Provincial Traffic Department and a security company conducted a special operation during the past weekend. The operation was held on Friday and Saturday night and Sunday morning. The team operated in the Lephalale area on Friday and Saturday night and in the Villa Nora area (the D3110 from Shongoane to Seleka and the R158 between Lephalale and Marken) on Sunday morning.
According to W.O. Frans Mokoena, Lephalale SAPS spokesperson, Brig Masia, cluster commander, congratulates everyone on a very successful operation where various criminals were arrested.
Eight people were arrested for drinking in public, two people for possession of a dangerous weapon, three for failing to comply with the liquor act, one for dealing in drugs, and one for possession of drugs. 16 illegal immigrants were arrested and in Villa Nora three people were arrested for drinking in public. One suspect was arrested for house breaking and theft.
Various people were tested for drunken driving by making use of a breathalyser. The number of people arrested for drunken driving could not be confirmed.
On Tuesday a case of kidnapping and theft was opened against five staff members of a security company in Lephalale. According to W.O. Mokoena, a house owner opened the case, because he says the five people allegedly searched his house without a warrant and some of his household items were stolen by them during the special operation over the weekend. The case number is CAS198/09/2016. They were released with a warning to appear in court.
