DORSET — Dorset Police are investigating a murder case after a suspected rhino poacher was shot dead by security guards at a game farm near Lephalale.
It is alleged that the security guards heard gun shots inside the farm on Tuesday 10 March around 03:00.
The guards went out to investigate and immediately encountered three unknown male suspects who resisted to be arrested when ordered by the security personnel to cooperate with them.
One armed suspect attempted to shoot at the guards with a rifle and they retaliated with gunfire shots. He was killed instantly while the other suspects disappeared in the nearby bushes.
Police were urgently notified and immediately went to the scene. While inspecting the scene, one axe and two rhino carcasses where found with three horns dehorned.
In addition, one 375 caliber projectile was found on each carcass. The unknown deceased poacher was found with one 375 rifle with three rounds next to him.
Police are on a manhunt for the other two suspects and require assistance from community members with information that can lead to their arrest, to contact the local police.
