Sod turning for satellite SAPS

SHONGOANE — On Thursday morning 27 July around 09:30, the community of Shongoane gathered at Phahladira Village to partake in the sod turning event for the new satellite police station.
Partners in this development are Lephalale Local Municipality, Eskom, Medupi Power Station, Shongoane Community, SAPS and Mr Phahladira, the owner of the land. The satellite police station will be placed in Phahladira Village in Shongwane 2, Lephalale.
The Mayor of Lephalale, Cllr Moloko Jack Maeko, indicated that this new development is part of the effort to minimize crime. He said Shongoane has a very high crime rate and the new satellite station is more accessible to the community than the police station.
Maeko furthermore promised the police and the community that Villa Nora Satellite Police Station will be up and running by the end of October 2017. He said Eskom’s Medupi Power Station will provide the satellite police station with park homes that will be equipped with offices, toilets and a boardroom.
The mayor requested and warned the community not to burn down the police station or clinics and schools but rather to go and speak to him and he will do what is necessary in any situation.
