Stephan now Deputy Leader

Stephan Manamela

LEPHALALE — Stephan Manamela was recently announced as the newly elected Deputy Provincial Leader of DA Limpopo.
Mogol Post spoke to Manamela to find out where his love of politics comes from and how he sees the future.
Manamela joined the Democratic Party in 1999 – then still under the lead of Tony Leon.
In 2006 he was elected as Councillor to represent Lephalale in the Waterberg District. He served as Councillor for both Lephalale and Waterberg and for the third term only Lephalale.
Since 2008 he served as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Limpopo Province and in 2013 he was also elected to serve as Federal Legal Commissioner (FLC). In this position he had to deal with the constitutional matters and he held disciplinary hearings for members of the DA. “When someone had to be removed from the party, I made the final decision,” he says.
Stephan says people started to recognise his potential and he was asked to stand as deputy chairperson of Limpopo in 2008. He lost the election.
He has been a member of the Executive Provincial Commission since 2008 and he has been appointed over towns like Mogalakwena, Modimolle, Mookgophong, Bela-Bela, Thabazimbi and Lephalale.
He is now Chairperson of the Constituency Executive Community where the whole of Limpopo Province is part of his responsibility.
He is directly involved in the day to day DA activities from ground level up and he believes in the fact that the DA differentiates between politics and administration.
Stephan motivates all DA members to support each other. “The DA representation is not as strong as it should be in Limpopo. I see it as a challenge to change that. We need to recruit mentors.
“2019 is the last chance there will ever be to save South Africa from corruption and destruction. We can only hope that we, as the DA, can make South Africa work” he concludes.
“A special thanks to my colleagues Astrid Basson, Sybil Nieuwoudt and Nico Pienaar for their support and believing in me. Thank you also to all the delegates who voted for me – especially those from different DA Constituencies around the Limpopo Province”, Stephan says.
As Stephan is a resident in Marapong, please watch this space for feedback on all the shortcomings and deterioration in Marapong.
