WA prize-giving for senior primary phase

VAALWATER — The Waterberg Academy celebrated the academic, sporting and cultural achievements of the learners in the Senior Primary Phase of the school in the first week of December.
There was also an award in each grade for the learner who had been the most considerate and positive citizen throughout the year. Inspirational messages were delivered by Mr Barend Pretorius and Mr Shane Dowinton.
The Highest Achiever in academics in Grade 7 was Bianca Nortje. As the Most Promising Netball Player and the Best Junior Archer, who represented the Limpopo Province at the u.18 level in archery, she was also awarded as the Sportswoman of the Year.
The highest achiever award in Grade 6 was shared by Jana Leonard and Alexander Schulz. Jana was also acknowledged for her achievements in guitar playing. Alexander received an award for being the Most Improved Cyclist in mountain biking.
The highest academic achiever in Grade 5 was Ruben le Roux. He also received an award as the Male Equestrian Rider of the year and a bar for representing Limpopo Province in his age group in Horse Riding.
The highest achiever in Grade 4 was Kelly Broodryk and she also received the Citizenship Award for Grade 4.
Heini Maritz was recognised as the Most Improved Cricketer and Cross Country Runner and received Junior Sportsman of the Year Award.
Peter Calcott received the Tree of Knowledge for achieving the highest score in the General Knowledge Test. He was also awarded Best Boy Tennis Player, Victor Ludorum during athletics season and Most Improved Soccer player.
Megan Frew received an award from Rosa Joubert as the Best Girl Tennis Player.
Lyandi van der Merwe was the Female Equestrian Rider of the Year and also received a bar for representing Limpopo Province in Horse Riding.
