LEPHALALE — Perfect running weather awaited the 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km fun run athletes on the crisp winter morning of 5 August 2017.
For the fourth consecutive year, Lephalale Mall in association with the Mogol Marathon Club and Exxaro as main sponsor, hosted the Exxaro Mogol Marathon.
Lucas Raseruthe, aged 34 and originally from Lesotho, successfully defended his 2016 title as the first male on the 42km route. Charles Soza moved up one space to second place and a newcomer, Richard Mavuso came in third.
Other returning athletes were Tshifhiwa Malobola, Peu Thlou and Catherine Malungani who all improved their 2016 results.
Road running clubs represented on the day were Nedbank Elite, Magnolia, Pietersburg Road runners, Acacia, Maxed, 32GI, Thabazimbi, Potties and Grabouw, to name a few.
The organising committee thanks the volunteers, marshals, officials, sponsors, water points and all the participating athletes.
The results over the various distances were:
10km – Open Female: 1st Amanda Pieterse, 2nd Phuti Makgae, 3rd Augustina Chauke
10km – Open Male: 1st Nicolin Farmer, 2nd Peter Sathekga, 3rd Lucas Lelaka
21km – Open Female: 1st Catherine Malungani, 2nd Dalene Riekert, 3rd Marietjie Lombard
21km – Open Male: 1st Peu Thlou, 2nd J.J. van der Merwe, 3rd, Bethuel Netshitenze
42km – Open Female: 1st Tshifhiwa Malabola, 2nd Joyce Netshifhefhe, 3rd Geneva Raphahla
42km – Open Male: 1st Lucas Raseruthe, 2nd Charles Soza, 3rd Richard Mavuso.
