Mogol CC turns momentum

LEPHALALE — Mogol Cricket Club (CC) played against Mahwelereng CC this last weekend on their fields; it’s still early in the season for the Waterberg 40 overs league.
Mogol lost their first game and had to quickly turn the momentum around to kick off the season well. Mogol’s captain, Louis du Plooy won the toss and asked the home team to bowl first in the oppressive heat. Mogol’s opening bowlers did a fantastic job in putting the pressure on the home team from the beginning, Mogomotsi Moabelo achieved a hefty 39 runs in his part of a 100 opening partnership. But it was the new boy on the block that stole the limelight, Jahno Snyman hit 100 runs and set a perfect table for the middle order to achieve a hefty total on the score board.
Hendrick Venter and Loyd Seleka also let the willow bats do the talking and pushed Mogol CC’s total to 269 runs in the allotted 40 overs. With runs on the score board and the opposition under pressure is was Mogol CC’s turn with the ball; good disciplined bowling from Mogol’s opening bowlers CJ de Swart and Billy Clarke held the home team fast, the spinners Louis du Plooy and DJ du Plessis each sent two opponents back to the pavilion but it was Jaco Hurn that broke the back of the batting with his four wickets for just 14 runs. Mogol drove the opponents out for just 150 runs and won easily with 119 runs and earned a bonus point in the league.
Mogol CC invites any players who may be interested in being part of the team to come and join them at their practices on Tuesday and Thursday at 17:30 at the club. Mogol will play against Limpopo Strikers this coming weekend.
