MARAPONG — After obtaining two gold medals and showcasing a great performance on their home ground at The Junction in May this year, Johanna Sethowa and Rosina Senona, learners at Tielelo Secondary School in Marapong, were chosen to take part in Limpopo Athletics (LIMA).
This athletics team from Tielelo Secondary School went to Groblersdal last month to cement their entry to the interprovincial competition. A trip to Zeerust in North West on 16 June was an introduction to the big league for the team as they had to compete against athletes from other provinces.
When asked about the team’s performance, Coach Solomon Moruni said: “I am very proud to say I see continuous progress in the team, they never say no and their attitude is amazing. We managed to qualify for the interprovincial and we are currently working hard to see the team achieve more and earn entry to the nationals.”
Coach Moruni also added that his wish to take kids off the streets and into athletics in particular, is only possible if he can get support from parents as well. He promised to give his best in guiding and training his team to reach higher heights.
Team Tielelo Secondary School spent their Youth Day on the course, with both girls and boys doing well, earning podium positions at Zeerust on June 16. The team has set their goal on the next race at Stanford Lake in Magoebaskloof near Tzaneen on July 27.
Tielelo teachers are also hard at work trying to find some sponsors for the team. Mr Nyama, Tielelo’s Sports Caretaker, said: “Tielelo Secondary School is located in Marapong, 25 km outside Lephalale. The school has an athletic team which is currently participating in Limpopo athletics (LIMA), the team took part in four races so far and is doing very well, but we face challenges with logistics, team gear, transport and food for the athletes. We therefore urge the community and businesses to donate for the team”.
